Another Andrew Jackson :: essays research papers fc
Andrew Jackson, the seventh president of the United states, was born on March 15, 1767, in the Waxhaw settlement on the western frontier of South Carolina. Jackson was orphaned at the age of 14 and was brought up by his uncle. Jackson was born into a poor family. When his parents died, he went to live with his Uncle, who was a wealthy slave and land owner. As a result, Jackson moved among wealthy people and property owners, who monopolized the prestige and political influence in the back country. So now he could see what the different lives between the rich and the poor, he became really popular by the common people and also was considered part of the political movement and he led what was know as the Jacksonian Democracy. He could see that the wealthy were huge land owners or industrialized families, and the poor families were small farmers. Jackson was the type who wanted the land to be all American. Dealing with the Native American policy, he forcibly removed southern tribes from lands guaranteed then by federal treaties and the United States Supreme Court decisions. Doing this gave him great power and led the United States to a bigger nation, but what does that say about the United States words. Because of them, the Indians could not trust them any more. Jackson was also against slavery. Even Modern historians observe that Jackson was a large slave owner and that his party was the enemy of free blacks and their rights. He was so against African Americans, they denied anti-slavery pamphlets in the United States Postal Service. I think the reason that he liked slavery so much was because that his Uncle was a large slave owner and he found that they are very useful and could help make money a whole lot faster and cheaper then regular labor. If Jackson was against slavery, I feel that the Slavery issue would have ended a lot faster then it did in the American History. Jackson did do a lot for the country and also made the common people feel like they have a place in today society. If it was just rich people running the country,

August Wilsonââ¬â¢s Fences Essay
August Wilsonââ¬â¢s Fences The immigration of Africans to America as slaves has had a great effect to many things including literature. Despite their experiences in this foreign land, they brought with them a different culture that had not been experienced in the American society. The stories and experiences of African-Americans have seen authors write books and plays being staged with large audiences. This is due to the different but almost similar stories that these people have to tell regarding their journey to America and how difficult it was for them to fit in the society they found. Introduction In 1983, the American playwright August Wilson released a play titled Fences. The play has a setting of the 1950s and it explores the evolving African ââ¬âAmerican experience with race relations as one of the many themes depicted in this play. The play revolves around a 53-year-old man named Troy who is an African-America. He is struggling to provide for his family and although he is a baseball player his color is a barrier for him being able to join professional baseball thus receiving little money to support his family. This paper seeks to analyze the play and check on why it was given the title Fences (Wilson). Analysis of the play Fences by August Wilson As earlier stated, the play is about a man named Troy. The play shows how Troy is struggling to not only provide for his family but also to fit in a society in which people are judged by their skin color. The theme of race discrimination is portrayed well throughout the play. First, in the 1950s in which the play is set, people of color were seen as those who do not deserve any good thing in the society. They were associated to social crimes and ending up in jail for a crime not committed was a normal phenomenon (Wilson). However, emotional disconnect with the society they lived in and failure to secure a job so as to earn a living was greatly contributing to them ending up being involved in these social crimes. In the play, Troy is shown as a baseball player a game he had learnt and played while in prison. He had ended up in prison for an accidental murder he had committed during a robbery. From this act it is evident that due to his failure of securing a job, Troy had ended up involving himself in robbery so as to earn himself a living but this time it turned out ugly and he ended up in prison. Further, discrimination is seen at work place where some jobs could not be done by an African-American but instead they were reserved for the whites. This is seen when Troy manages to secure a job with a garbage collecting firm and he is heard asking Mr. Rand; who he refers to as the boss, why black men were not allowed to drive garbage trucks. This shows that indeed there was race discrimination at work place where African-Americans could not be bestowed with some responsibilities. The act of being denied an opportunity to drive a garbage truck can be seen as a sarcastic event. It can be viewed in the way that even if garbage collection was being seen as dirty work that could only be done by those who were seen as less fortunate in the society, the fact that driving a garbage truck was seen as ââ¬Å"literary driving a vehicleâ⬠, an African-American would not be allowed to drive the truck since they were restricted to do so during that time (Tamura). In addition, the play shows Rose who is Troyââ¬â¢s wife with whom they have a son named Cory, however, Troy has a son Lyon from a previous marriage but he does not leave with him. Gabriel is Troyââ¬â¢s younger brother who has notable psychological damage after he suffered head injuries when he was serving as a soldier. This new development of Gabriela having served as a soldier brings contrast of sentiments of race discrimination and at the same time it can be viewed as one way in which discrimination of people of the color was being cemented. First as a contrast, this play shows how certain jobs were being reserved for whites. Soldiers were people who not only deserved respect from the society but also received a good pay. Therefore, Gabrielââ¬â¢s employment as a soldier, contrasts the theme of discrimination where some jobs such as a being a soldier were being reserved for those the society thought they owed respect to. However, it can be viewed differently in the sense that owing to the tasks, experiences and challenges that faced soldiers in the battle fields, African-American men were seen as the right people for the job. This follows, the understanding that most of those who served in the army died in war or if one was luck to survive they would come home having sustained severe injuries like in the case of Gabriel. This can be seen as a form of discrimination where those who were less regarded in the society were being recruited as soldiers since the society would be seen not to worry even if it lost them (Tamura). The play unfolds on a payday when Troy and his friend Bono are drinking and chatting. His son Lyon comes to him asking to be lent 10 dollars promising to refund the money soon since his girlfriend had secured a job. Troy gives him a hard time but after persuasion from his wife Rose, he finally lends his son the money. From this scenario, one can see that the family is really struggling to survive owing to Lyonââ¬â¢s inability to raise even 10 dollars thus leading him to borrowing from his father. This shows that African-Americans were struggling a lot so as to survive in a society where living standards were high and a society where job opportunities were rare given the much rooted racial discrimination (Wilson). Further, as the play continues, Cory tells his parents of an opportunity for a college football scholarship. Troy vehemently condemns his sonââ¬â¢s thought of applying it and they argue. Troy does not want his son to play basket ball since he does not him to experience the racial discrimination he went through during the time he was playing baseball. The man does not back down his argument and following his experience with racial discrimination he is not ready to watch his son go through the same. As a result, Troy even approaches Coryââ¬â¢s coach and tells him that his son will no longer be playing football. Upon discovery of his fatherââ¬â¢s lies, Cory confronts him and they end up in a fight that causes Cory to be thrown out of the house by his father. This scenario shows the effect that racial discrimination had to Troyââ¬â¢s life. Following him denying his son the opportunity to play college football with an excuse of racial discrimination, one can see that indeed Troy had gone through tough time due to racial discrimination and he was protecting his son. Despite his time of playing baseball and that of his son playing football being different, Troy could hardly believe that racial discrimination could have melted away, thus, the unmoved stand exhibited by him(Wiggins & Miller). Consequently, after Cory is kicked out of the house, they no longer get along with his dad. This can be seen during the final act when Troy dies and Cory refuses to attend the funeral due to the long-standing resentment. However, after his motherââ¬â¢s persuasion, Cory attends the funeral to pay respect to the man who had tirelessly struggled to provide for them even if he was hard headed. The rivalry between son and father can be traced back to have been caused by racial discrimination. This is due to the fact that if Troy had not suffered through discrimination, he could not have denied his son to take the college football scholarship and as a result they could not have argued to the extent of later not setting eyes on one another. One can see the indirect effect that racial discrimination had to peopleââ¬â¢s lives (Wiggins & Miller). Further, during Troyââ¬â¢s burial, Cory had just come from the military training. This can be analyzed as a positive step towards fighting racial discrimination. This follows the fact that during his fatherââ¬â¢s youth days, certain jobs opportunities such as joining the military were mostly given to the whites. Therefore seeing Cory coming out of the military training it is evident that with time, racial discrimination had come to reduce thus allowing African-Americans be able to get job opportunities which earlier being people of color they could not easily get. In addition, throughout the play, Troy is shown as a man who had a different cultural influence or different socialization. First, this can be seen through his son Lyon who was from an earlier marriage. Further, in the play, Rose discovers that his husband has been having an affair with a lady called Alberta and he had made her pregnant. However, Alberta dies during childbirth and Rose accepts to adopt her daughter Raynell whose father Troy dies when she is seven years old. Being an African-American, the act of having more than one wife is not out of the norms owing to African culture with him. However, finding himself in a society where polygamy is viewed as a thing past by time, Troy could not marry Rose while still having the first wife and he could not bring Alberta as another wife thus he ended up having an affair with her other than coming to the light (Sofola).. In the African culture, to which Troy can still find some association, most communities allow polygamous marriages as this is seen as wealth as the man will have many children from these wives. Traditionally, in the African culture having more than one wife was seen as a public sign that a man had more resources that would allow him to marry as many women as he pleased. However, the culture was against adultery and a man would not be allowed to bear children outside marriage unless he would later end up marrying the lady (Sofola).. Therefore, although the African culture among the African-Americans was fading away, its influence continued to affect them for years. Consequently, Troy was a man who had been influenced by this culture but the society which he currently lived in was not in support of the culture. Therefore, this explains his act in life of having a first marriage, then marrying Rose and finally having an affair with Alberta. Troyââ¬â¢s case shows the effect that migration to the West had to African-Americans; it did not only give them a hard time trying to fit in a society where they were less regarded but it also eroded their cultures and presented them with a different and difficult socialization (Sofola). Having analyzed the play, one would seek to answer the question on why it was given the title ââ¬Å"Fencesâ⬠. First, the theme of racial discrimination can be seen to have portrayed the title Fences. This is seen throughout the play where lines of racial discrimination were used to deny Troy and other African-Americans job opportunities. This judgment on bases of color is a fence in itself since it prevented them from getting good money to support their families. In addition, Troy could not join professional baseball playing due to the ââ¬Ëfenceââ¬â¢ of racial discrimination. However, to Cory, his father is the fence that does not allow him to get the college football scholarship after he refused him on the grounds of racial discrimination. In addition and to the literal meaning, Rose wanted to build a fence and forced Troy to start so that she could protect what is hers in the inside and leave what belongs to the society outside the fence. Conclusion Throughout the play, racial discrimination is shown as the cause of anything that Troyââ¬â¢s family is going through. One can appreciate the writerââ¬â¢s overemphasize on this issue owing to the fact that this play is set in the 1950ââ¬â¢s when racial discrimination was still evidently being experienced. The play assists one to understand the effect that racial discrimination had on the lives of African-Americans as well as the influence of Western culture to their socialization and culture. This play will assist in keeping the history of the experience of African-Americans in the American society and it will remain to be a crucial part of literature.

Comparsion Study of Sexual Experience of Women with...
Michael W. Wiederman, Tamara Proyor, and C.Don Morgan, conducted a study comparing the sexual experiences of women with bulimia vs. women who suffered anorexia. Similar to this experiment control groups in the past have used bulimics and anorexics (Wiederman et al., 1996a). It had been reported that women who are bulimic have greater sexual activity and experience compared to women with anorexia, and are more likely to engage in sexual intercourse (Wiederman et al., 1996a). In addition reports have stated that ââ¬Å"anorexia nervosa was often precipitated by menarche and the initiation of breast development, and that the anorexic individual often had difficulty negotiating heterosexual relationships, ultimately retreating from, or rejecting,â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Also they were asked to ââ¬Å"rate their satisfaction with their ââ¬Å"current sexual activityâ⬠. 5-being extremely satisfied/extremely interested, and 1-being not at all satisfied/ not interested (Wiederman et al., 1996a). In addition ââ¬Å"2 hour diagnostic assessments were conducted by clinicians experienced in the evaluation and treatment of eating disordersâ⬠, it began with ââ¬Å"semi structured interviews conducted by a psychologistâ⬠, with the focus being on ââ¬Å"patientââ¬â¢s current and past history of eating disorder symptoms, weight, and caloric intakes, as well as social and medical historyâ⬠(Wiederman et al., 1996a). It ââ¬Å"concluded with the staff psychiatrist who conducted a psychiatric interview including the Psychiatric Diagnostic Interviewâ⬠(Wiederman et al., 1996a). The results for this experiment showed that bulimics were more sexually active than anorexics, with 53.4% of anorexics admitted to having sexual intercourse, and 85.6% of bulimics, and ââ¬Å"with regard to having masturbated, only 24.2% of those diagnosed with anorexia nervosa indicated that they had such experience, whereas 51% of those diagnosed with bulimia nervosa indic ated that they masturbatedâ⬠(Wiederman et al., 1996a). The conclusion of this study indicated the same results as past research determining that women with anorexia were less likely then women with bulimia to have had sexual intercourse (Wiederman et al., 1996a). Analysis Of The Poem The Colonel By Carolyn Forche
Every person would like fair treatment but, in our communities, we find that some individuals do not get fair judgment regarding some issues. The topic of justice has been talked about by many individuals in our societies. Writers too have not been left out in telling about the same issue. Authors of different genres work very hard to try to help create a just society. These authors do so by using different themes in their works to let us see how our society is unjust and also what we can do to ensure justice is in practice. This essay discusses the topic of justice as displayed in the poem ââ¬Å"The Colonelâ⬠by Carolyn Forche, the play. ââ¬Å"No Crimeâ⬠by Billy Goda, and the story ââ¬Å"The Lottery ââ¬Å"by Shirley Jackson. Practicing justice In the poem ââ¬Å"The Colonelâ⬠by Carolyn Forche, the narrator is acting as a witness in a case where the colonel is a victim. The narrator gives us a description of how things were during the visit at colonelââ¬â¢s house. Everything was well when they were having the dinner. Colonel and the narrator had something to talk about how it has become so hard to govern. After the wife of the Colonel takes away everything after the dinner was complete. Colonel has a secret that he has to reveal to the narrator. A surprise hits the narrator after the colonel brought a sack and dumped several human ears on the table. Colonel talks arrogantly regarding the people who were likely to be the victims where he tells the narrator that ââ¬Å"they go and fuck themselves,â⬠(Forche,1289)Show MoreRelatedAnalysis Of The Poem The Colonel By Carolyn Forche, The Play `` And `` The Lottery ``1220 Words à |à 5 Pagesdifferently in the poem ââ¬Å"The Colonelâ⬠by Carolyn Forche, the p lay. ââ¬Å"No Crimeâ⬠by Billy Goda, and the story ââ¬Å"The Lottery ââ¬Å"by Shirley Jackson. Either Republican or Democrat Free Essays
At this very moment, our political system has become so polarized that a person must be either a Republican or Democrat. Both sides of the aisle are having trouble to communicate with each other to reach a compromise. Today, the Democrats have become too far left and the Republicans are too far right. We will write a custom essay sample on Either Republican or Democrat or any similar topic only for you Order Now If I must choose one party, I will choose the Democratic Party. I believe that the government should raise the minimum wage to $15, free college tuition, women having a choice when it comes with their bodies, and immigrants having the opportunity to live in the greatest country in the world, the United States of America. A lot Of Americans are going through hard times. Everything has become so expensive that with the national wage of $7.25 is not enough. People are working through multiple jobs to make ends meets. For example, my father works three jobs. Two jobs are full time and the other one is part time. Each job pays $10 an hour. Ten dollars compare to the national average seems better, but where my family lives is not enough. My father is the one responsible for paying for mortgages, food, insurance and my education. He is putting his health on the line to give me the opportunity to have a higher education. Back during an assignment for Government 2305, I propose a law that will raise the minimum wage to $15. I believe that if the national wage was $15, people can enjoy and have great opportunities to succeed in life. I hope one day, congress can pass a law that will raise the minimum wage. Public Education has become so expensive. After students graduate college, they will have tons of debt that it will take forever to pay off. For students that are going to college, free tuition is a great idea. I believe that having free tuition will help many families who are struggling financially. Even with scholarships, students are having hard time paying for college. The proposals from Senator Bernie Sanders appeals to me. Free college tuition for me is an awesome idea and will save me money especially when I want to go to medical school for me to become a dermatologist. Sanders proposals for free college tuition has taken a lot of criticism from republicans because it will increase the federal deficit, but the tax cuts they just pass will increase the deficit to one million dollars. Even with criticism, I believe one-day congress will make free college tuition a reality. Womenââ¬â¢s rights are one of the issues that is getting attention especially with the possibility of a repeal of the decision of Roe v Wade that made abortion during the first trimester legal. With the nomination for a new Supreme Court justice, women are worry that they will not have the ability to control their bodies. I believe that women should have the right to decide what to do with their bodies. I believe that women should have access to facilities that will help guide them through family planning, birth control, and safe abortions. If I ever become pregnant, I would not have an abortion personally, but that will be my choice not the governmentââ¬â¢s. Women have fought so hard over the years that they donââ¬â¢t want the government to take away the rights they have gained. Immigration has become the heated debate between Democrats and Republicans. President Donald Trump is constantly bringing illegal immigration as the reason for the crimes going on around the country. There have incidents that where undocumented immigrants have been charge with murder, but that doesnââ¬â¢t mean that every immigrant is a criminal. Immigrants are what made the United States of America. Immigrants work day and night to provide for their families. I believe that undocumented immigrants should have a path to citizenship only if they have no criminal record. They should have the same opportunity that Europeans had when they first arrived at the United States. Immigrants are in the country in search of the American Dream and no skin color should prohibit that from happening. I do consider myself a Democrat. I didnââ¬â¢t vote in the 2016 election because it was my belief that Hillary Clinton would win the elections. Unfortunately, Donald Trump was elected. Midterm elections are coming up, and I will be voting for the Democratic party. Democrats should take control of the House of Representatives and the Senate. Hopefully, the state of Texas could one day turn blue. How to cite Either Republican or Democrat, Papers

medical malpractice Argumentative Essay Example For Students
medical malpractice Argumentative Essay Medical Malpractice:Is Your Care Below Standard?Imagine yourself lying on an operating table, motionless, quiet. Above, you notice people standing over you. You try to speak but the words just cannot come out. Your arms feel as if they are plastered to the table. You begin to stand up but feel as if weights are strapped to your back and you are bound to the table. Suddenly you feel a sharp pain in your midsection. In and out, you see a surgeon slicing your body open with a scalpel. Every motion the masked person makes is as if you are being torn apart from the inside out. One would hope this would simply be a nightmare and they will wake up and everything will be fine. In this instance, this person will come to and realize that they had just gotten the surgery that they needed, while they were still conscious. This is not a horror story meant to scare anyone, this has actually happened on a number of occasions. People have actually woken up during there own surgery to all of the pain and the agony that would be expected of such a procedure. The only problem with that situation is, they cannot do anything about it because they are in a temporary paralysis. This is the sort of thing that can go wrong, among many other things, during a routine medical procedure. Not all cases are nearly as extreme as the one described, while others can be much more. Malpractice can be a difficult subject to understand. The word malpractice is used in many ways to describe different circumstances. The actual term negligence refers to the carelessness of a professional or an associate (Cazalas 17). Although each situation is looked upon by a case-by-case basis, there is a system in which carelessness is determined. Under the eyes of the law, there is a scale which measures whether or not a situation is considered to be carelessness or not. This scale is called the standard of care. The standard of care describes what a prudent person, who acts under circumstances that are similar to the ones in question, would do. This prudent person is nobody specific; it is just a fictional person made up by the legal system who is completely average in every way. This person is an average person who is equipped with the average skills and knowledge that pertains to this field of work, and also contains an average amount of judgment and common sense (Cazalas 19-23). The actions of what this average professional would do in this situation are used as a sort of measuring device to determine whether the actions taken by the professional in question were appropriate. If what the person in question did met the requirements of what the standard of care calls for, then there has been no account of negligence. There are four main points that actually make up negligence. There must first be a situation in which the standard of care must be given under the given circumstances. Failing to follow the standard of care begins the case of negligence. After not satisfactorily completing the standard, there is an apparent setup for harm to the patient resulting from this failure to meet the requirements of care. When an injury is inflicted on the patient, that relates to the standard of care being violated, and that seals the case. Those are the four ingredients needed to complete a case of negligence (Cazalas 18). There are two specific cases that show how the standard of care is used in the determination of cases in certain situations. They both take place in Canada, and they both pertain to nurses that had left their posts to go on there coffee breaks. One of these cases was proved to be negligent, while the other was proven not to be a case of negligence. These are both taken from the publication Nursing and the Law:In Child v. Vancouver General Hospital 71 W.W.R. 656(1969), the nurse left for a coffee break after the physician in charge had seen the patient who, as the physician later testified, appeared much improved. In deciding that the nurse was not negligent to leave such a patient unattended, the court emphasized that the question of liability should be determined in the light of the circumstances, as they existed at the time. When the nurse left the patient, it was not foreseeable that an increased risk to the patient would be created. (Cazalas 23)One can see that in this case the court ruled in favor of the nurse based on the fact that the situation was unforeseen. None of the people working in that facility could have been able to tell if something of great sincerity could happen while a patient is in improving health. Although it would have been ideal for someone to be there to see over the patient, nobody can be everywhere at once. In this next case it is not so simple. Military Policy EssayMedical malpractice is a very serious issue. Although not always life threatening, situations involving wrongdoing in the medical field can be physically as well as emotionally distressful. Maintaining an above average standard of care can help keep medical professionals out of trouble. Making sure communication is kept between oneself and ones health care provider will help make a more secure environment while undergoing any sort of medical procedure. Medicine should not be feared, being more informed of the facts will help deal with any problems that one may have. The standard of care must be maintained, and as long as it is everyone will be better off.
